success is closer than you think

Success is Closer Than You Think

“What was your increase in sales since you joined the Bethesda Sales Mastermind?”
“25,000.”
I read it twice, then I called Chris Cunnion, one of our coaches who created and facilitated the program, to make sure that I was reading and understanding it correctly. He shared with me that he had confirmed it. The $25,000 increase in sales resulted in a 25x return on investment. Imagine investing $1,000 in the stock market and it growing into $250,000 in just five months. That’s what happened here.
It’s a credit to Chris, his development of the program, and the way he chose to deliver that. It’s also, however, a credit to that client who fully committed and trusted the process. He took the approach that he was going to go out and test what he was learning rather than evaluate whether or not he thought the content was worthy of his effort.
As coaches, we are co-creators with our clients and we have countless stories of how their commitment and bias for action produces incredible stories like these. My own coach once shared with me that “coaching collapses time,” and it certainly does. Coaching invites others to consider what’s possible, to fight for what could be rather than the limitations that have kept it the way it is, and to empower us to take the right next step to what we truly desire.
I’ve shared the story before of my own client who hit their five year revenue target in two after working with us for six months. To be clear, this isn’t a commercial for working with BLG. It’s inviting you to consider what things seem really far off to you that are nearly within your grasp already. It’s about the fact that goals that seem impossible are often so much closer than we realize.
I was recently sitting with someone who I have been recruiting to join our team. We were sitting at the Squantum Association looking out over the Narragansett Bay without a cloud in the sky and the city of Providence in the background. It was just the two of us under a gazebo. We were talking about working together, as we have been for the better part of a year now. As we get closer to the decision, it becomes increasingly clear that the number one obstacle keeping this person from joining is a laundry list of things that could go wrong. To some degree, it’s helpful to consider what the worst case scenarios are because it can help us see that it’s really not as bad as we feared. And yet, there is a rumination and a nearly eternal exploration to identify and protect against every risk—real or perceived. After what I considered to be an appropriate amount of time exploring those questions, I asked the person: “Are you going to spend the rest of your life thinking about everything that could go wrong, or are you going to focus your energy on creating the future?”
“Fair point,” they responded.
I went a step further and invited them to imagine what could be possible by becoming part of our team. Immediately, the creativity kicked in and the excitement went up as they began to think about what was possible in the near and far term, and it was extraordinary and beautiful to watch how alive that person was in that state of creativity and dreaming. As I write this, they should be letting us know soon whether they are going to join our team and be part of our movement or not. I sure hope they do, because I know that whatever they think we can achieve together now, it’s so much greater than that.
I’ll wrap up here with one more story. We had a client that Chris started to work with about three months ago. They had some significant cash flow issues and their customer service had taken a dip. Within 90 days, they restructured agreements with clients that created some up front cash, decreased the overall number of days they were paid, and were able to improve their customer service by removing the ambiguity in their relationships with their customers and creating real clarity. That was within 90 days. The business owner is happier, less stressed, and eager to see what’s next. So are we!
I show up to each coaching session expecting something miraculous to happen. The breakthrough is rarely as far away as we think it is.
